Rooftop restaurants in Singapore: dining with a view

Singapore's skyline looks its best from above, especially around Marina Bay. Rooftop restaurants in Singapore range from open-air terraces to dining rooms on high floors behind tall windows. This short list covers both. It suits a birthday, an anniversary or a last night in the city. Expect higher prices than at street level, as you pay for the view as well as the food.

How to choose a rooftop restaurant

Indoor or outdoor?

Open-air terraces feel special, but Singapore is hot and humid all year. Sudden storms are common too. Indoor sky dining rooms stay cool and dry, and still give big views through the glass. If you want an outdoor table, ask what happens if it rains.

What view do you want?

From the top of Marina Bay Sands, you look over the bay, the city skyline and Gardens by the Bay. From City Hall, you look across the city towards Marina Bay. On Sentosa, the view is more about sea, sky and greenery.

Marina Bay also has free evening light shows, by the water and in the gardens. Plan dinner around one with Free Light Shows in Singapore: Spectra & Garden Rhapsody.

Full meal or drinks?

Some places are full restaurants. Others are mainly bars that also serve food. Check the listing and menu before you book, especially if you want a proper dinner.

Tips for booking and visiting

  • Ask for a window or terrace table. Request it when you book. The best tables go first, especially at weekends.
  • Time it for sunset. Singapore is close to the equator, so the sun sets at roughly the same time all year. Arrive a little before dusk to watch the city lights come on.
  • Dress smart casual. Many places do not allow beachwear, singlets or flip-flops in the evening. Read Rooftop Bar Dress Code in Singapore: What to Wear before you go.
  • Check for minimum spends. Some sky bars set a minimum spend or entry charge at busy times.
  • Know rough costs. Expect prices well above average. A tasting menu can cost several hundred dollars per person. Prices change, so check menus first.
  • Plan your journey. For Marina Bay Sands, Bayfront MRT station is the closest. For Sentosa, travel via HarbourFront. See How to Get to Marina Bay by MRT, Bus and Taxi.
  • Drink responsibly. The legal drinking age in Singapore is 18. Many rooftop venues are also bars, so pace yourself and plan your ride home.

After dinner, stroll along the water with the Marina Bay Night Walk. If you prefer to see the view without a meal, the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck is another option.

FAQs about rooftop restaurants in Singapore

Which rooftop restaurant has the best view in Singapore?

It depends on what you want to see. Spago Dining Room, Ce La Vi and LAVO look over the bay and city from Marina Bay Sands. JAAN by Kirk Westaway looks across the city from high above City Hall.

Do rooftop restaurants in Singapore have a dress code?

Most ask for smart casual clothes in the evening. Avoid beachwear and flip-flops unless the venue says they are fine.

Can I bring children to a rooftop restaurant?

Many restaurants welcome children at meal times. Bar areas may have age limits at night, so check with the venue before you book.

What happens if it rains?

Outdoor areas may close for a while during heavy rain. Indoor tables are the safer choice, especially in the wetter months around the end of the year.
