Burgers, Mexican & more in Singapore: what this list covers
Singapore is famous for hawker food, but it also has plenty of relaxed international places. This guide to burgers, Mexican & more in Singapore covers burger joints, taco bars, Middle Eastern kitchens and beach clubs. It suits a casual lunch, a group dinner or a lazy day by the sea. Most places are in the city centre. A few are on Sentosa, in the east, in the north and at the airport.
Burgers and American food
Burgers are an easy choice for families and fussy eaters. Here are some good options:
- Shake Shack (Jewel): American burgers inside Jewel Changi Airport. It is handy before or after a flight.
- Black Tap: American burgers in the Marina Bay and CBD area.
- Burger & Lobster: Western food in Bugis and Kampong Glam. As the name suggests, the menu centres on burgers and lobster.
- Fatboy's The Burger Bar: American burgers in Ang Mo Kio and Bishan, a residential area away from the centre.
- Smokey's BBQ: American barbecue in Katong and Joo Chiat. Think slow-cooked, smoky meats and hearty sides.
For more smoked meats, see the Barbecue page.
Mexican food and tacos
A taco is a soft corn or flour tortilla wrapped around a filling, such as grilled meat, fish or beans. Other common dishes include quesadillas, which are toasted tortillas filled with melted cheese. Guacamole is a dip made from mashed avocado.
- Lucha Loco: Mexican food in Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar.
- Super Loco Customs House: Mexican food in the Marina Bay and CBD area.
- Café Iguana: another Mexican choice in the Marina Bay and CBD area.
- Vatos Urban Tacos: tacos that mix Korean and Mexican flavours, in Bugis and Kampong Glam.
Spice levels vary from dish to dish. Ask staff how hot a dish is if you are not sure.
Middle Eastern plates
Middle Eastern menus suit groups, because many dishes are made for sharing. Expect mezze, which are small plates such as hummus and grilled vegetables. Flatbreads and grilled meats usually follow. Fat Prince is in Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar. Artichoke is in Bugis and Kampong Glam. For more, browse Middle Eastern restaurants.
Not every Middle Eastern restaurant is halal. If you need halal food, look for the MUIS halal certificate on display. MUIS is the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore.
Beach clubs and dining with a view
Some places on this list are as much about the setting as the food.
- Tanjong Beach Club and Coastes serve Western food in a relaxed beach setting. Coastes is on Sentosa, so you can pair lunch with a Sentosa Island Day Out.
- Spago Dining Room serves American food high above Marina Bay. LAVO Italian Restaurant & Rooftop Bar mixes Italian and American dishes in the same area. See more in Rooftop & Sky Dining.
- LeVeL33 serves European food in the Marina Bay and CBD area. Atlas, in Bugis and Kampong Glam, also has a European menu.
Several of these places are also bars. The legal drinking age in Singapore is 18. If you drink, please drink responsibly.
Tips for booking and paying
- Book for dinner and weekends. Beach clubs and places with a view get busy, especially around sunset. Casual burger spots are often walk-in.
- Check for '++'. Menu prices marked '++' will have a service charge and GST added. GST is Singapore's goods and services tax.
- Know rough costs. A burger meal at a casual place may cost around S$15 to S$40 per person. A dinner with a view can cost far more. Prices change, so check menus first.
- Dress for the place. Beachwear suits a beach club by day. Smart casual is safer for rooftop dining at night.
- Plan for the weather. Sudden rain is common, so outdoor seats may close for a while.
