Some of the best things to do in Singapore cost nothing at all. Every evening, Marina Bay puts on two free light shows: Garden Rhapsody among the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, and Spectra on the waterfront in front of Marina Bay Sands. This guide to the free light shows in Singapore explains what each show is like, when to go and how to see both in one evening.

Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay
Garden Rhapsody is a light and sound show at the Supertree Grove in Gardens by the Bay. The giant tree-like structures light up in changing colours in time with music. The show lasts about 15 minutes and usually runs twice a night, at 7.45pm and 8.45pm.
The best way to watch is lying on the ground under the Supertrees and looking up. Arrive 15 minutes early to find a good spot, especially at weekends.
Spectra at Marina Bay Sands
Spectra is a light and water show on the Event Plaza in front of Marina Bay Sands. Lasers, fountains and projections on water screens move to an orchestral soundtrack, with the city skyline behind. It also lasts about 15 minutes. Shows usually start at 8pm and 9pm every night, with an extra show at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Sit on the steps of the Event Plaza for the best view. You can also watch from across the bay at Merlion Park, though the sound is quieter there. Read more on our Marina Bay light show page.
How to see both free light shows in one evening
- Arrive at Gardens by the Bay around 7.30pm and watch Garden Rhapsody at 7.45pm.
- Walk to Marina Bay Sands through the hotel or along the linking bridge. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Find a seat at the Event Plaza in time for Spectra at 9pm.
If you prefer a slower evening, watch Spectra at 8pm first, then walk to the Supertrees for the 8.45pm Garden Rhapsody.
Where to eat before or after
For a cheap dinner, try Satay by the Bay inside Gardens by the Bay, or Makansutra Gluttons Bay by the Esplanade. Both are casual hawker-style spots that work well before a show. If you want to stay nearby, see our list of hotels in Marina Bay & CBD.
