Choosing between resorts in Singapore
Resorts in Singapore give you large pools, gardens, several places to eat and often a spa, all in one place. Many visitors add a few resort nights to a city trip. Others stay the whole time and travel into town for sights. Singapore is small, so even the beach is close to the city centre.
The main choice is where to stay. Sentosa suits beach breaks and theme park trips. Marina Bay puts you in the heart of the city. Pasir Ris, in the east, offers a quieter break close to a large park.
Sentosa resorts
Sentosa is the main resort area. It is a small island linked to the mainland by road, the Sentosa Express monorail, a cable car and a boardwalk you can walk across. It has beaches, walking trails, a historic fort and big attractions. Browse Hotels in Sentosa for every stay on the island.
Family and theme park stays
Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, Singapore sits by Siloso Beach, so the sand is right outside. Hotel Michael (Resorts World Sentosa) is part of the Resorts World complex, a short walk from Universal Studios Singapore. Village Hotel Sentosa, Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa and Oasia Resort Sentosa are other resorts on the island to compare.
Luxury and quieter stays
Capella Singapore mixes restored colonial-era buildings with newer wings, set in gardens. Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, Raffles Sentosa Singapore and W Singapore - Sentosa Cove are 5-star choices. For something smaller, The Barracks Hotel Sentosa is in restored colonial-era army barracks.
City and east-side resorts
Marina Bay Sands is a resort in the city centre. Its rooftop infinity pool is for hotel guests only. Non-guests can buy a ticket for the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark observation deck instead. Gardens by the Bay is next door.
D'Resort @ Downtown East is in Pasir Ris, a residential area in the east. It suits families who want a relaxed, low-key break. Pasir Ris Park, with its beach and cycling paths, is close by.
How to pick the right resort
- Families: look for kids' pools, family rooms and kids' clubs. Read Kid-Friendly Hotel Pools in Singapore: What to Look For.
- Couples: pick a quieter resort with a spa and gardens. Our Couples & Romance guides have ideas.
- Theme park fans: stay at Resorts World Sentosa, so you can walk to the rides.
- Busy sightseers: a city resort saves travel time. You could also split your trip between Sentosa and the city.
Getting to Sentosa
Take the MRT (train) to HarbourFront station. From there, walk through VivoCity mall to the Sentosa Express monorail or the Sentosa Boardwalk. The Singapore Cable Car also runs to the island from Mount Faber and HarbourFront. Taxis and ride-hailing cars can drive you straight to your resort. Small entry charges may apply, depending on how you arrive.
Tips for a resort stay
- Book early for busy dates. Weekends and school holidays fill up fast, and rates rise.
- Check what is included. Breakfast, island shuttles and kids' clubs are not always part of the rate.
- Check the final price. Many hotels show rates before service charge and GST (Goods and Services Tax).
- Plan for the weather. It is hot and humid all year, with sudden showers. Use sunscreen and drink plenty of water. See Weather & Best Time to Visit.
- Swim safely. On beaches, follow the posted signs and flags.
