What to expect from value hotels in Singapore

Value hotels in Singapore are simple, practical places to sleep. Most are 3-star hotels from well-known chains. Every one on this page holds a Google rating of 4.0 or more, so you can expect clean rooms and helpful staff.

Rooms are usually small, as space in the city is tight. Expect air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a private bathroom and somewhere to work. Some have a small pool or gym, but many do not. On-site dining is often limited. That rarely matters in Singapore, where cheap local food is never far away.

Who value hotels suit

A value hotel works well if you plan to be out from morning to night. Solo travellers, couples and friends on a city break get the most from them. Families of four may find the rooms tight. If you need more space or a kitchen, compare prices with our Serviced Apartments page.

Where to find value hotels

Bugis and Bencoolen

Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen is on Bencoolen Street, within walking distance of Bugis and the museums around Bras Basah. The area has plenty of cheap food and good MRT links. The MRT is Singapore's metro.

Orchard Road

Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road and Hotel Grand Central put you close to the malls of Orchard Road. Mall basements have food courts with good-value meals. Cheap Eats on Orchard Road: Mall Basements and Food Courts shows where to look.

Clarke Quay and the river

Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay is a short walk from the Singapore River. It is a central base for Chinatown, the CBD and evening walks along the water.

Katong and Novena

Ibis Singapore Novena is in the Balestier area, which has plenty of local eateries. Both are a little outside the centre. How to save money in Singapore

  • Eat at hawker centres. These large food centres have many small stalls selling local dishes at low prices. See Best Hawker Centres in Singapore for Tourists.
  • Use the MRT and buses. Public transport is clean, safe and good value. You can pay by tapping a contactless bank card. Read How to Use the MRT in Singapore: A Tourist Guide.
  • Enjoy free sights. Parks, heritage areas and light shows cost nothing. Try 20 Free Things to Do in Singapore.
  • Refill your water bottle. Tap water in Singapore is safe to drink, so carry a refillable bottle.
  • Stay near an MRT station. A hotel close to a station saves on taxis, especially in the heat and rain.

Booking tips for value hotels

  • Know the rough cost. As a rough guide, value rooms often cost around S$150 to S$300 a night. Prices change with dates and demand, so check the latest prices.
  • Read the small print. A rate marked "++" does not yet include service charge and GST, Singapore's goods and services tax. Check whether breakfast is included.
  • Check the room size and beds. Twin rooms can be tight for two adults with large cases.
  • Book early for busy dates. Budget rooms can sell out fast during big events and public holidays.

FAQs about value hotels in Singapore

Are cheap hotels in Singapore safe?

Singapore is widely seen as a safe city, and well-rated budget hotels are generally secure. Use the room safe, if there is one, for passports and valuables.

What is the cheapest area to stay in Singapore?

Areas a little outside the centre, such as Novena, Balestier and Katong, often have lower rates. Bugis and Little India also have many budget options. Stay near an MRT line to keep travel easy.

Do value hotels have pools?

Some do, but many 3-star hotels do not. If a pool matters, look at our 4-Star Hotels instead.

Is a 3-star hotel enough for Singapore?

For most travellers, yes. You will spend much of your time out exploring. A clean, quiet room near the MRT is often all you need.
