The city comes alive after dark: evening plans for light shows, views, night markets and supper.

Singapore at night is cooler, calmer and lit up. This page is for evening plans: free light shows, river walks, markets, the Night Safari and supper spots. Pick a route from the list. Then read the tips below on timing, transport and where to eat late.

Plan it with EatStays: Nightlife and Marina Bay Night Walk.

Planning an evening: Singapore at night

Singapore at night is one of the best parts of any trip. The heat eases after sunset, and many sights look their best under lights. The city is also very safe after dark, so evening walks are easy. Most routes here need only the MRT and comfortable shoes.

Plan your evening around one area. Then add a light show, a view and a late meal. Show times can change, so check them on the day.

Marina Bay after dark

Marina Bay is the classic first evening. Two free shows run here on most nights:

  • Garden Rhapsody: a light and music show at the Supertree Grove in Gardens by the Bay.
  • Spectra: a light, water and music show on the waterfront at Marina Bay Sands.

Between the shows, walk around the bay. Cross the Helix Bridge, pass the Esplanade and stop at Merlion Park for skyline views. Free Light Shows in Singapore: Spectra & Garden Rhapsody covers both shows. For a view from above, try the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck or the Singapore Flyer.

Along the Singapore River

The Singapore River links Marina Bay with three old quays. Boat Quay sits closest to the bay, with restaurants in old shophouses. Clarke Quay is busier, with restaurants, bars and clubs. Robertson Quay, further upriver, is quieter. A Singapore River Cruise on a bumboat, a small river boat, is a relaxed way to see the lights.

Wildlife, markets and evening shows

Night Safari

The Night Safari is a wildlife park that opens only in the evening. You see animals that are active at night, from walking trails and a tram. It is in Mandai, in the north, so allow time for a taxi or bus. Book tickets ahead, especially at weekends.

Markets and late shopping

Bugis Street is a covered market with cheap clothes, souvenirs and snacks. Nearby, Kampong Glam & Haji Lane stays lively in the evening, with cafés and restaurants near Sultan Mosque. In Chinatown, the streets around Pagoda Street have stalls selling souvenirs.

Shows on Sentosa

On Sentosa, Wings of Time is a paid night show on the beach. It uses water, lights and fire. Check show days and book before you go.

Supper and a drink with a view

Supper means a late meal, and it is a big part of local life. Hawker centres such as Newton Food Centre and Lau Pa Sat are popular in the evening. At Lau Pa Sat, satay stalls set up on the street beside the market after dark. For more ideas, see our Late-Night Food guides.

For a view, many hotels and towers have rooftop bars. Read Best Rooftop Bars in Singapore With a View and check the dress code first. The legal drinking age in Singapore is 18. Alcohol is costly here, and drinking in public places is not allowed late at night. Please drink responsibly and plan a safe ride back.

Getting around at night

  • The MRT runs until late evening, but not all night. Check the last train times for your line.
  • Taxis and ride-hailing apps are easy to find. Expect higher fares after midnight.
  • Carry water, as evenings are still warm and humid.
  • Bring a light layer for cold air-conditioning indoors.
