Singapore Flyer

A slow ride on Singapore's giant observation wheel, with wide views over Marina Bay, the city skyline and the sea.

About Singapore Flyer

The Singapore Flyer is a giant observation wheel at the edge of Marina Bay. It opened in 2008 and stands about 165 metres tall. One slow turn of the wheel gives you wide views over the bay, the city and the sea.

It is a calm, easy way to see the city from above. This guide covers what you will see, how to get there and how to plan your ride.

What is the Singapore Flyer?

The Flyer is a large Ferris wheel with 28 glass capsules. Each capsule is air-conditioned and has room for a group to stand and move around. The wheel turns slowly, so the ride feels smooth and steady.

One full turn takes about 30 minutes. That gives you plenty of time to take photos and look in every direction. When it opened, it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world.

The wheel suits families, couples and first-time visitors. It is a good choice if you want a high view without standing on an open deck.

What you can see from the Singapore Flyer

The view changes as your capsule rises. Near the top, you can see across much of the city centre.

  • Marina Bay: the bay, the waterfront and the three hotel towers topped by the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark.
  • Gardens by the Bay: the Supertrees and glass domes of Gardens by the Bay.
  • The city skyline: the tall office towers of the Central Business District.
  • The Esplanade: the two spiky domes of the arts centre by the water.
  • The sea: ships waiting in the Singapore Strait on clear days.

How to get to the Singapore Flyer

The nearest MRT station is Promenade, on the Circle Line and the Downtown Line. From there it is a short walk to the Flyer. Follow the signs as you leave the station.

You can also walk from Marina Bay Sands across the Helix Bridge. This is a pleasant route, especially in the evening. Taxis and ride-hailing cars can drop you near the entrance.

Tickets and the best time to go

You need a ticket to ride. Prices and opening hours change, so check the official website for opening hours and tickets. You can book on the Singapore Flyer website.

Sunset is the most popular time. You see the city by day, then watch the lights come on. Book ahead for this time if you can.

Daytime rides are often quieter and can give clearer long views. Night rides show the city lit up, and the bay looks very different. Many visitors pair a ride with the free evening shows around the bay. Our guide to free light shows in Singapore explains them.

The roads near the Flyer form part of the Singapore Grand Prix street circuit. During race season, some roads and paths around the area close. Read about the Singapore Grand Prix if your trip falls at that time.

Tips for riding the Singapore Flyer

  • Check the weather first. Rain and low cloud can spoil the view.
  • Hold your phone or camera close to the glass to cut down on glare.
  • Wear darker clothes if you want fewer reflections in your photos.
  • The capsules are air-conditioned, so the ride is comfortable even on a hot day.
  • If you are nervous about heights, stand in the middle of the capsule. The movement is very slow.
