Why book a hotel with a rooftop pool

Hotels with a rooftop pool in Singapore give you a cool swim and a view at the same time. In a hot, humid city, a dip after a day of sightseeing helps a lot. Some pools face the Marina Bay skyline. Others look over old shophouses or the river.

Rooftop pools range from long infinity pools to small plunge pools. An infinity pool has an edge that seems to vanish into the view. Size, shade and opening hours vary a lot, so check the details for each hotel.

Where to find hotel rooftop pools in Singapore

Marina Bay and the CBD

Marina Bay Sands has the city's best-known rooftop infinity pool, high above the bay. It is for hotel guests only. Nearby in the CBD, the Central Business District, The Clan Hotel Singapore is a 5-star boutique tower with a rooftop pool and city views. See Hotels in Marina Bay & CBD for more stays in the area.

The Warehouse Hotel is a boutique hotel in a restored riverside warehouse. Its small rooftop pool looks out over the river. It suits couples who want a quiet, stylish base near Robertson Quay.

Katong in the east

Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong has a rooftop infinity pool above the Katong area. It makes a good base for Peranakan food, the cooking of the Straits Chinese community. Colourful shophouses and East Coast Park are close by.

How to choose a rooftop pool hotel

  • Check the view. Ask what the pool faces. A skyline view is not the same as a view of nearby office blocks.
  • Look at the size. Some rooftop pools are for a short dip, not for swimming lengths.
  • Look for shade. The sun is strong all year. Loungers with umbrellas make a big difference.
  • Ask about children. Some pools have age limits or set family times. Kid-Friendly Hotel Pools in Singapore: What to Look For explains what to check.
  • Read recent reviews. Pools close for repairs from time to time, and reviews often mention it.
  • Compare the price. Hotels with well-known pools often charge more. Decide how much time you will really spend in the water.

Pool rules and etiquette

Hotel rooftop pools are usually for staying guests only. Staff may ask to see your room key. Most pools also follow a few simple rules.

  • Outdoor pools often close during thunderstorms, which are common in Singapore. Have a back-up plan for the afternoon.
  • Glass is usually not allowed on the pool deck.
  • Cover up with a robe or shirt when you walk through the lobby.
  • Keep other guests out of your photos, or ask them first.
  • Pools can get crowded around sunset. Try a morning swim for more space.

Rooftop views without a hotel room

You do not need a room to enjoy the view from above. The Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck is open to paying visitors. Many tall buildings also have restaurants with a view. See Rooftop & Sky Dining for ideas. For an evening drink with a view, see Rooftop Bars. The legal drinking age in Singapore is 18, so please drink responsibly.
