West Coast Park

A free park near the coast in western Singapore, popular with families for its big playgrounds, lawns and paths.

About West Coast Park

West Coast Park is a large public park near the coast in the west of Singapore. It is popular with local families for its big playgrounds, open lawns and long paths. Entry is free, and it makes a relaxed break from the city's malls and attractions.

This guide explains what to do, how to get there and what to bring for a comfortable visit.

Why visit West Coast Park in Singapore?

West Coast Park is a good place to see everyday life in Singapore. On weekends, families gather for picnics, children play and people jog, cycle or walk their dogs. It feels very different from the busy city centre.

The park has lawns, trees and shaded shelters. It is managed by the National Parks Board, which runs many of Singapore's parks. It suits families with children, walkers and anyone who wants some fresh air without a long trip.

What to see and do at West Coast Park

Most visitors come for the playgrounds. The adventure playground has climbing nets and flying foxes, which are small zip line rides for children. There are also play areas for younger children.

  • Playgrounds: large play areas with climbing nets and flying foxes.
  • Open lawns: space for picnics, ball games and resting in the shade.
  • Walking and cycling paths: paths that run through the park.
  • Dog run: a fenced area where dogs can run off the lead.
  • Barbecue pits: for groups, booked in advance through the National Parks Board.

Look up from the paths and you may spot birds in the trees. Quieter corners of the park are good for a slow walk away from the playgrounds.

How to get to West Coast Park

West Coast Park does not have its own MRT station. A taxi or ride-hailing car is the simplest way to get there, especially with children. Public buses stop on the roads around the park.

Use a journey planner app to find the best bus or train route from your hotel. If you are new to public transport, read our guide on how to use the MRT in Singapore. There are car parks for those who drive.

Tips for visiting West Coast Park

  • Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when it is cooler.
  • Bring water, sunscreen and a hat, as some areas have little shade.
  • Pack a picnic mat for the lawns.
  • Bring insect repellent, especially near the trees in the evening.
  • Check the weather, and take shelter from storms and lightning.

Weekends are the busiest time, as local families come to play. On a weekday, the playgrounds are usually much quieter. Keep the park clean by using the bins, and follow the signs in the dog run and play areas.

Food and things to do nearby

Food options in the park are limited and can change, so bring snacks and water. For a proper meal, nearby estates such as Clementi have hawker centres with affordable local food. Our best hawker centres guide and hawker centre etiquette tips will help you order with confidence.

Several other places are a short drive away. Haw Par Villa is a park filled with statues and scenes from Chinese folk tales. Kent Ridge Park has forest trails and views over the port. At the National University of Singapore, the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum shows dinosaur skeletons and local wildlife.
