A large, free park in central Singapore with a natural-looking river, open lawns and space for families to play.
Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is one of the largest parks in central Singapore. It lies between the housing towns of Bishan and Ang Mo Kio, and entry is free. A natural-looking river winds through the middle, with wide grassy banks on each side. It is a favourite with local families, joggers and dog walkers.
This guide covers what to see, how to get there and tips for a safe, relaxed visit.
The park first opened in 1988. At that time, a straight concrete canal ran alongside it. Between 2009 and 2012, the canal was removed and turned into a gently winding river with planted banks. This change made the park greener and more natural. It also brought more birds and other wildlife into the area.
Today the park shows how a city can bring nature back into everyday life. The river is part of the Kallang River, and it still helps carry rainwater away. In dry weather, you can walk down the grassy banks close to the water.
Visit if you want to see a well-loved local park away from the tourist areas. It is a great spot for a morning walk, a picnic or a play stop with children.
The park is large, so pick one area to explore or walk along the river from end to end.

Paths run beside the river. Wide grassy slopes lead down to the water. Footbridges cross from one side to the other. It is a calm place to sit and watch the water flow.
Smooth-coated otters are often seen in and along the river. Many kinds of birds also live in the park. Watch from a distance, keep your voice low and never feed or chase the animals.
There are playgrounds for children and plenty of open lawns for running around. Bring a mat and some snacks for a simple picnic. Please take your rubbish home with you.
Long paths loop through the park and along the river. They are popular with joggers and cyclists. Cyclists should ride slowly and give way to walkers.
Bishan MRT station and Ang Mo Kio MRT station are both within reach of the park. From either station, it is a fair walk or a short bus ride to the nearest entrance. A taxi or ride-hailing car is the easiest choice if you are short of time.
If you are new to the trains, read our guide on how to use the MRT in Singapore. Once there, wear comfortable shoes, as the park is long and you will walk a lot.
The park is free to visit. Check the National Parks Board (NParks) website for any closures or works before you go.
Food options inside the park are limited and change over time. There are many more places to eat in the nearby town centres. See our guide to restaurants in Ang Mo Kio and Bishan for ideas. For a seafood dinner, Mellben Seafood (Ang Mo Kio) is one well-known option. Check its opening hours before you go.
Also in Bishan is Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, a large Buddhist monastery. If you visit, dress modestly, speak quietly and follow the visitor rules. If you have children with you, see our list of things to do with kids in Singapore. You can also browse more family fun ideas, more nature and parks in Singapore and other free things to do in Singapore.
