Windsor Nature Park

A free forest park in Upper Thomson with short, shaded trails and wildlife, on the edge of Singapore's largest nature reserve.

About Windsor Nature Park

Windsor Nature Park is a quiet forest park in the Upper Thomson area of Singapore. It sits on the edge of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, the largest nature reserve in the country. Entry is free, and the trails are short enough for a relaxed morning walk.

Come here to see tall trees, forest plants and wildlife without a long or hard hike. It is a good choice if you want real nature close to the city.

Why visit Windsor Nature Park

Most visitors to Singapore see gardens and city parks. This park feels different. Here you walk through secondary forest, where trees have grown back over many years. Much of the way is shaded, which helps on hot days.

The park is run by the National Parks Board (NParks). It acts as a buffer between the city and the nature reserve next to it. This gives the forest some protection, and it gives you an easy way in.

It is also a good place to watch wildlife. You may see long-tailed macaques, squirrels, birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Early mornings are often the best time for birds, as the forest is cooler and quieter.

What to see and do

The park has several marked trails, including the Hanguana Trail, the Squirrel Trail, the Drongo Trail and the Venus Loop. Most are raised boardwalks or short loops, so you can combine two or three in one visit. Check the trail map at the entrance or on the NParks website before you start.

  • Walk the forest trails at an easy pace.
  • Look for birds, insects and squirrels in the trees.
  • Listen for the sounds of the forest, such as birdsong and insects.
  • Take photos of tall trees, ferns and forest plants.
  • If you are fit, follow longer trails into the reserve towards the MacRitchie TreeTop Walk.

Some paths are wide and easy to follow. Others are narrower earth tracks with roots and uneven ground. Take your time and watch your step.

How to get to Windsor Nature Park

The park entrance is at Venus Drive, a small road off Upper Thomson Road. Buses run along Upper Thomson Road, and you can walk to the entrance from there. A taxi or ride-hailing car can also drop you close to the gate.

Tips for visiting

  • Go early in the morning, when it is cooler and quieter.
  • Wear shoes with good grip, as paths can be muddy after rain.
  • Bring water, insect repellent and a light rain jacket.
  • Do not feed the monkeys. Feeding wildlife is against the law in Singapore.
  • Keep food and plastic bags out of sight, as macaques may grab them.
  • Stay on marked trails and take your rubbish with you.
  • Check the NParks website for opening hours, trail closures and weather alerts.

Afternoon storms are common in Singapore. If you hear thunder, leave the forest and find shelter. Our guide to the weather and best time to visit explains the rainy seasons. For what to bring, see our Singapore packing lists.

Upper Thomson Road has many local eateries and cafés. One well-known name is Springleaf Prata Place, which began in the Upper Thomson area. It is known for roti prata, a crispy flatbread served with curry. You can find more options on our list of restaurants in Upper Thomson.

If you want more forest, the MacRitchie TreeTop Walk is a suspension bridge high in the trees of the same nature reserve. It makes a good longer hike for fit walkers. The TreeTop Walk has its own opening days and hours, so check them before you set out.
