Pulau Ubin

A short boat ride from Changi, this quiet island has village houses, old quarries, forest trails and easy cycling routes.

About Pulau Ubin

Pulau Ubin is a small island off the north-east coast of Singapore. It feels like a step back in time, with simple village houses, dirt tracks and thick green forest. A short boat ride from Changi takes you there.

Most visitors rent a bicycle and spend a few hours exploring. It is one of the best day trips in Singapore for people who like the outdoors.

Why visit Pulau Ubin

Life on the island is slow and quiet. A small number of people still live in kampongs, the traditional villages of the region. You will see wooden houses, fruit trees and a few small temples along the roads.

The island was once known for its granite quarries. Today the old quarries have filled with water and become calm lakes, ringed by trees.

Nature is the main reason to come. The island has mangroves, forest and coastal wetlands. Look out for hornbills, monitor lizards, wild boar and many kinds of birds.

Things to do on Pulau Ubin

Cycle around the island

Bicycle rental shops are near the main jetty. The roads are quiet, with some flat stretches and a few short hills. You can ride to the main sights at your own pace.

Ride the mountain bike trails

Ketam Mountain Bike Park has off-road trails of different difficulty levels. Wear a helmet and choose a trail that matches your skill.

Stop by the old quarries

Ketam Quarry and the other old quarries make good stops for a rest and a photo. Enjoy the view from the edge, and do not swim in the quarry lakes.

How to get to Pulau Ubin

Boats to the island leave from Changi Point Ferry Terminal, next to Changi Village. To get there, take a bus from Tanah Merah MRT station or a taxi.

The boats are small wooden bumboats. They usually leave once there are 12 passengers on board, so you may wait a short time on quiet days. The ride takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Fares are usually paid in cash, so bring small notes.

There is no bridge to the island, and the boats do not follow a fixed timetable. Check when the last boats run before you set off. Our guide on how to use the MRT in Singapore can help you plan the first part of the trip.
